In memory of Prof. Anton Valavanis

With deep regret, the Neuroscience Center Zurich (ZNZ) has to announce that Prof. em. Dr. Anton Valavanis has passed away on 30 May 2023. Our thoughts are with his family, friends, and colleagues.

Anton Valavanis was the former head of the Department of Neuroradiology at the University Hospital Zurich. He was a member of the founding Steering Committee of the ZNZ in 1998 and he served on this board until 2010. During that time and later as the president of the Clinical Neuroscience Center, which he founded in 2014, he strongly promoted a close partnership between basic and clinical neuroscience research and education. This laid the foundation for numerous collaborative research projects from bench to bedside and back. We are very grateful for Anton’s contributions to the neurosciences in Zurich and we will keep him in good memory.
